Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates are basically the same as normal SSL certificates. They do not provide any enhanced encryption features.
Extended Validation SSL certificate applicants go through a more rigorous validation process by the certificate authority (CA) before a certificate is issued. This is the only difference.
Only software that recognizes the special EV tags in an Extended Validation SSL certificate will recognize it as different than a normal SSL certificate. Other software will use it just as it would a normal SSL certificate.
